Does a therapy-matching platform need CQC registration?
In England, usually not — a platform that introduces clients to independent clinical psychologists, counsellors or psychotherapists generally sits outside CQC registration. Adding doctors (including psychiatrists), nurses, prescribing, mental-health social workers, or the platform itself employing or directing clinicians, can change that. Is an AI matching feature a medical device?
Software that diagnoses, triages or recommends treatment can be a medical device under MHRA rules. Matching people to practitioners on their stated preferences generally is not — as long as it doesn't use symptoms, severity or clinical scores to decide urgency or level of care. We build AI features that interpret and rank — never diagnose — and keep the product wording consistent with that.
